That’s Right!! Team Twisted is now affiliated with the top BJJ team in the country. After winning the World’s (Mundial) team trophy the past two years, Alliance BJJ has proven themselves to be the top team in the world for BJJ. The Alliance has produced some of the finest BJJ champions ever to set foot on the mat, including Jacare Cavalcanti (the head instructor at Alliance USA), Fabio Gurgel (the head instructor for Alliance in Brazil), Marcelo Garcia (multiple time Abu Dhabi and Mundial champion), Rubens “Cobrinha” Charles (Has won the world’s 4 years in a row), and many more. This gives us unique opportunities to have Jacare, Cobrinha, and others to travel to us for seminars and promotions. Make no mistake about it, this will raise the level of BJJ in our gym and be proven through our competitions. I expect every member of Team Twisted to realize what a large responsibility this is. We will be representing the top team around and I expect everyone one of us to act and train accordingly.
And for anyone wondering what happened to Cameron Diffley, absolutely nothing! Cameron is still trying to achieve many of his own personal goals and is not yet ready to start an association of his own. He is definitely supportive of our decision and thinks it is a great opportunity. Cameron wishes us the best of luck and will still be by the school once in a while to keep us on our toes!

We are going to stay closed Today, Wednesday December 9th, due to the city wide snow emergency. Because the City has shut down all non-essential services, all major schools, the bus lines, and have asked that people stay off the roads, we figured it best for us to remain closed. All scheduled classes will resume Thursday December 10th as normal. Thanks for your understanding and we hope you have a great Snow day!

Everyone had a great time at our first Trance Dance, which was held November 21st, 2009 here at Twisted Fitness. We re-decorated the entire facility to have a great, relaxing atmosphere and people were shocked at how the space looked. They couldn’t believe it was actually the same rooms we normally use for classes. We had almost 30 people in attendance and everyone left smiling and asking for more. Twisted Fitness also raised nearly $130, which was donated to the Dane County Humane Society. We are definitely going to plan more dances for the future, and are considering our next date for the end of January to celebrate the new year. Look for the announcement on the website or in our monthly newsletter.

What a way to kick off our Friday open mat. We were lucky to have former UFC Lightweight Champion Sean Sherk drop by and train with us for our first Friday night open mat. Sean just happened to be in town for the day and was looking for a place to train. He was very fun to train with and gave out a lot of pointers to all the students he worked with. It just always seems like you never know who will be stopping by to train with us. Let that be a lesson to all those who skip class, you never know what you are missing!

A big congratulations go out to Andy “Shaggy” Acker for winning his professional Mixed Martial Arts debut last night at Madtown Throwdown 21. It took Shaggy all of 29 seconds into the first round to secure a triangle choke and finish Jay Ellis who trains out of Neutral Ground in Milwaukee. Shaggy took the fight on short notice against a fighter with over 40 prefessional fights and was never in doubt he would be victorious. In true Twisted Fitness fashion, Shaggy showed that hard work and hard training definitely pay off!

Congrats to Sonya who just returned from a weekend of Yoga Trance Dance training with Shiva Rea at the beautiful Kripalu Yoga Center in Massachusetts
Yoga Trance Dance is a
meeting of yoga and dance It is an exploration of the eternal flow of natural movement through yoga. Beginning with prana initiating yogasanas, yoga trance dance flows into an exploration of free-form, breath driven movement to liberate one’s creative life force.
There were over 80 yoga teachers, practitioners, and dancers attending the training, culminating in a 2 hour YTD Saturday night open to the public. With over 150 attendees, the energy and flow was incredible. I wish you all could have been there to experience what I did.
We are planning to have a special YTD in Novemeber to celebrate Sonya’s Birthday! We will keep you posted on the date and time.
