The 3 day camp with Dimitrius Souza has ended and the academy and team took a huge level up this past weekend. 3 HARD days of training, coupled with the highest level of technique, helped us kick off our 8 week training camp for the August Chicago Open and Masters World. Dimitrius is currently ranked 5th in the world at Adult Black belt and has some of the smoothest technique around. That, coupled with great competition experience, showed us an entirely new way to approach out training. We not only gained some superior technique, but also got many ideas on how to improve our training with some advanced drilling techniques and philosophies. Day One started with Takedown defenses, utilizing the defense to create great positions and submissions. Day Two moved into De La Riva Guard and transitions to modified X Guard, finishing with submissions or sweeps leading to leg drag transitions. Day 3 capped off with some very high level ideas on passing different open guards and grips. While it was definitely a lot to take in, the technique was taught in a way that allowed people to immediately implement it into their games. Each day was wrapped up with about an hour of live training, in which Dimitrius showcased his high level skills on all of us. Honestly his ability to “play” in the gym was amazing. He truly treats the training room for what it is and not a competition. The rolling was technical and friendly, yet competitive. Everyone had a great time. We look forward to having Dimitrius back with us soon and once again were reminded how we are surrounded by such amazing team mates and how blessed we are to be part if the Alliance Team!
