One of the great things about being part of the World Champion Alliance BJJ team is that we get all kinds of visitors who will stop in to our Academy. Because we have the highest level of BJJ in the area we get frequent visits from visiting BJJ practitioners of all levels. We often get visiting UFC fighters and World Champions who are looking for some great training.
So, It is no surprise that 2x Black Belt World Champion and UFC fighter, Sergio Moraes, would stop in to train and teach a class. In town for the UFC in Milwaukee, Sergio asked to come teach a class Friday night at our Academy. While we had a full weekend already organized, with our Team meeting on Saturday and the Fuji tournament on Sunday, we were hard pressed to get it organized. But, there is no way we could pass up the opportunity to expose our students to such a high level of technique. So, we made arrangements and planned the class. We definitely would not regret the decision.
Sergio taught some set ups to a modified X-Guard from De la Riva with the near side grip, VERY high level technique and details. The students were able to easily learn it due to Sergio;s both technical and comical teaching style. We all learned a lot, and we all laughed a lot, too! It was very joyous occasion!
After the Seminar, Sergio trained with, then awarded a first strip to one of our newest students, Steven. This was an Epic occasion for Steven. For those who have not yet met Steven, he is definitely a BJJ success story. Steven was in an accident where the doctors told him he will never walk again. He had severe Brain Trauma, loss of vision, and much more. Steven’s will power is something we should all hope to emulate, as he not only has regained his ability to walk, but now trains BJJ with us on a regular basis. He is truly an inspiration and we love having him as part of the team!
