Brazilian Jiujitsu (BJJ) is a martial art based on grappling or ground fighting techniques. Originally evolving from Japanese Jiujitsu, BJJ has grown into a very popular and competitive sport.

In 1993, BJJ took the world by storm by being the sole art used to win the first “Ultimate Fighting Championship”. This competition pitted competitors from various martial arts styles against each other to see which style was the greatest. While the BJJ practitioner was not the biggest or strongest competitor, he dominated the competition with his flawless technique. This is the first time most Americans were exposed to the art of BJJ. This event is historically recognized as the birth of BJJ in the U.S.A.

Years later the sport of BJJ has become a popular past time for those looking for self defense, those looking to compete, test their skills, and for those who seek an alternative form of fitness and exercise. At Twisted Fitness, we cater to all of the above.

Twisted Fitness and their competition team (Team Twisted) pride themselves on being one of the strongest teams in the Midwest. Year after year, we travel all over the Midwest seeking out the best competition for our students. And year after year we bring home trophies, medals, and stories of excitement from the competitions. Team Twisted always trains and travels as a team, with coaches there to assist from the sidelines. The training sessions for the competition teams are always intense and prepare our competitors to be in tip top shape for the upcoming events.

But, if competition is not your thing, there is still room for you on Team Twisted. Many of our students train just to get a workout, improve their fitness levels, or to be able to defend themselves in today’s fast paced and sometimes dangerous world. BJJ can help a person overcome many obstacles, whether physical, mental, or emotional. You’ll find a diverse group training at all times, anything from military personal to college professors, high school athletes to chemical engineers, ages from 15 to 65 years of age. The one thing they have in common is the interest in Jiujitsu and the need to relax and have a good time.

Classes at Twisted Fitness are broken into different skill levels during the week. Some classes are definitely important for the beginner, while others serve to better the competitors and those who someday wish to compete. It is suggested that students attend basic/beginner classes to master the techniques before moving into the advanced/competition classes. Training in the GI (traditional uniform) is also highly suggested for all those looking to truly master the art of BJJ. No matter what you are seeking from martial arts, Twisted Fitness’ BJJ program has what you are looking for.
